Using the OU Social App

OU Social is a Facebook app that provides a powerful yet simple solution to increase the presence of an institution on Facebook with the addition of a Facebook Page Tab to a Facebook Page. By linking a Facebook Page to OU Campus, users can select which OU Campus-managed web page to synchronize with a Facebook landing page or pages. This provides the ability to update social media and web pages simultaneously by editing one file.

The OU Social app is a means by which the welcome or landing page content on a Facebook Page can be managed using OU Campus. Utilizing OU Social involves integration between OU Campus and Facebook. When the content is updated on the OU Campus page, it can get pushed to the OU Social Facebook Page.

Before Setting Up OU Social

There are some prerequisites for using OU Social.

  1. A Facebook Page must already be created within Facebook. Note that Facebook Pages are different than Facebook Accounts/Profiles. A Facebook Account is a personal profile, which can create a Page and by default, is the administrator for it. Additional administrators can also be assigned. Once a page is added, the user can use Facebook as their original profile or as the Page.  See how pages are different from personal profiles on Facebook.
  2. The Facebook Page for which OU Social will be used in order to manage the landing page content must have been added to the Facebook Pages in OU Campus. See the Facebook Admin page for instructions on adding Facebook Pages to OU Campus.
  3. The production server will need to support https in order to use OU Social to post a welcome page.

Adding the OU Social App to the Facebook Page

If the prerequisites are met, the next step is to add OU Social to the Facebook Page being managed.

  1. First log into Facebook.
  2. Search for the OU Social by OmniUpdate Page.
